he lived his life. we get his story tonight from nbc's katy tur. >> reporter: more than 100 police officers from ridgewood this morning. they came to honor michael feeney. known around here as chief feeney. >> you know when you see people like this, they are the best of our family. >> reporter: michael back in june took on the chiefly duties of reviewing the dispatch, signing mountains of forms and making sure pesky sisters are locked up. last week, michael lost his four-year battle with a rare form of bone cancer, and though his short life was plagued with exhausting treatments, those who loved michael said nothing could dampen his spirit. >> michael was able to touch in his short ten years more than most of us ever will in a hundred. >> he loved the giants, yankees, and politics. he even got advice from his mayor on his stump speech for class president. tod the day was the best for michael ever. >> none of us know how to live in the moment, maybe we need to look at kids. because he was just living in the moment. >> reporter: to ensure michael would get to celebrate the holiday, n
and firefighters still have not located the elderly man who lives in the unit. ktvu's katie utehs is live on the scene with the new information about this mobile park. good morning, katie. >> reporter: good morning, tori. i just got off the phone with san jose fire's public information officer. he says now that it is daylight, the plan to move forward, research this mobile home. as you can see, it's completely gutted. early this morning they got through 80% of the home. they still need to search through the kitchen. they hope that will give them more identification or contact info as they try to find the elderly man who lived here. they do not believe he was home at the time of the fire. let me show you some video and some pictures of the flames and smoke coming from the mobile home at casa mobile home park along monterey in san jose. the smoke could be seen with 101 -- could be seen from 101. the mobile home where the fire started is completely destroyed, as you've seen. they walked through the gutted home and believe the elderly homeowner was not in the unit at the time. they are still
cities walk off the job today in an effort to push for higher wages. nbc's katy tur at one of those rallies in brooklyn, new york. she filed this report during the protests this morning. >> reporter: here outside of this wendy's in brooklyn, about 100 people have shown up. they've completely blocked the entrance trying to disrupt the lunchtime rush, not allowing pretty much anything inside. their goal is to get workers inside these companies like wendy's, inside these fast food joints to come out during their shifts. i'm not sure that's happened. it's been kind of hard to see whether or not anyone's been able to come out. that's really the goal across the country is really to disrupt this service. they've been chanting things like "we can't survive on 7.25." they're sea saying the minimum wage isn't enough for them to live. it's not enough for them to feed themselves or their families, not enough for them to clothe their families. they're saying a living wage, a fair living wage would be $15 an hour. of course, these are the second protests in just a few months. there was a major pr

. katie marzullo is in the newsroom. >> this is the largestest in a year long if issue for better pay if fast food workers and underway if negotiation city. workers began the protest at 6:30 this morning and as the day rolls out the workers in 100 cities walk off the job or then rally. workers are asking for more money. a federal minimum wage of $15 an hour. right now the wage is $7.25 which is $15,000 a year for full time employee. some experts say it is not a living wage. >> you could not buy your food if you have a family of zero you could support yourself but if you have a family with two kids and wife. >> workers take the jobs because they are desperate in an economy that is not creating enough work for people with want to go to work and not creating enough middle class jobs. >> this is the demonstration in oakland back if october and if the minimum wage went up to $15 food prices would go up and there would be fewer jobs. last month, president obama said he would back a senate measure to raise the federal minimum wage to $10.10 an hour and san francisco and san jose heard pay $1
